The grading system

The grades are based upon a Kyu and Dan grade system - Kyu representing a coloured belt system and a Dan black belt system.

To achieve new grades a student has to first attend a set amount of lessons in which time they learn the syllabus. They are then eligible to attend a formal grading.  Kyu gradings are held regularly throughout the year.

The Dan system continues from here, adding red tabs to the belt as higher Dan Grades are achieved. Dan gradings are held three times per year, usually in March, June and November.

3rd Dan will be the final time a one day formal grading will be used, 4th Dan and beyond will be graded over longer periods of time based on continuous improvement and contribution to the club.

Our Chief and Senior Instructors, at their discretion, impose a minimum time period between Dan grades, two years minimum to 2nd Dan, 3 years minimum to 3rd Dan and so on. These times are based on regular input to SRKA activities of at least 4 hours per week.
